      An advertisement is an announcement made in electronic, print and social media such as Radio, TV, Newspaper, Magazines, Cinema, Internet and Facebook catering to the needs of different groups of people in the society. Sometimes it is presented through visual and verbal message about a product,service or an idea. An advertisement is a very important tool of bringing together people who need each other for fulfillment of a particular goal. It brings together the employer and the job-seeker, the teacher and the student, the buyer and the seller and so on. Advertisements also imparts knowledge about various products available or launched in the market. Types of Advertisement: As of now, two types of advertisement are seen occupying the space of newspapers, the electronic media and social media platforms. These are:- (a) Classified and (b) General or Display. (a) Classified Advertisements: Classified Advertisements are similar to Notices, but there is a difference in content .There is always a prescribed Word Limit (generally 50 words) for Classified Advertisements because newspapers or electronic media charge for every word/line. There is no place for design and decoration in this Type of advertisement. The language or words used in Classified Advertisements are supposed to be formal, simple and factual. Classified advertisements are further subdivided into many parts which are mentioned below for the convenience of learners. 1. Situation Vacant (āĻāĻžāϞ⧠āĻĒāĻĻā§° āĻŦāĻŋāĻā§āĻāĻžāĻĒāύ) : This type of advertisement is used to announce the number of vacant posts in a particular department of the government or the private sector, the qualifications and experience required for the posts, the upper age limit for candidates, the scale of pay/salary negotiable, the last date of submitting application and contact number of the employer. Focus is given on the courses offered by the institute, the experienced faculties, the fees and the performance of previous batches. It highlights the additional advantages of studying at that institution. A handsome reward is also announced for the person who finds the items. (b) General or Commercial or Display Advertisements (āĻŦāĻžāĻŖāĻŋāĻā§āϝāĻŋāĻ āĻŦāĻž āĻĒā§ā§°āĻĻā§°ā§āĻļāύāĻŽā§āϞāĻ āĻŦāĻŋāĻā§āĻāĻžāĻĒāύ) : These are market-oriented advertisements designed by leading manufacturers, business establishments and companies for gathering customers for sale and promotion of their products and services. The purpose is to ensure publicity for financial gain. These are therefore expensive in terms of advertising costs. The language used there is colourful, attractive and persuasive with eye-catching phrases. The space required for such advertisements is bigger than the one required for Classified Advertisements.
